Just under 300 m of Multi-Plate™ has made Australia's Bowen Basin its new home thanks to a duplication project by the Carborough Downs Joint Venture. The Bowen Basin, located in Central Queensland, contains the largest coal reserve in the country. The Carborough Downs mine uses Atlantic Civil Products' Multi-Plate™ for stockpile tunnels in their Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) because it is more economical, has a wide range of shapes and sizes, ships and handles well and can be easily pre-assembled or assembled on-site.
The project, which consisted of five sections of HA36 Multi-Plate™ arches, can boast a stockpile height of 27.3 m with a coal density of 1100kg/m3. The tunnel has a 4.05 m bottom span and an inside rise of 2.97 m.
Ausenco was the consulting engineer on the project, and S & N Concreting and Constructions was the steel erector. Both companies said that they were very happy with the back-up and support that was given by Atlantic Civil Products, and complimented our design, development, contract administration and prompt delivery.
All said and done, it was another resoundingly successful project!
