At Atlantic Civil Products, our engineers consider every aspect of a project. So, when a client asked us to deliver a solution for relining corroded concrete box culverts along a busy highway, we knew that closing the road wasn't an option.
The 75 km stretch of highway between Australia's Cairns City Centre and Port Douglas is a well-travelled road. In fact, when heading north, this seemingly short bit of highway is the only direct link to Port Douglas from Cairns. Closing the road would have resulted in a four-hour detour for motorists, a prospect no one wanted.
Relining the box culverts with round pipes resulted in a loss of waterway area and the project therefore required, two additional cells be installed along with the standard reline. For this we specified our Polymer Laminated (Trenchcoat) pipes. To avoid inconveniencing highway motorists during the installation process, the Trenchcoat cells and concrete box relines were installed one half of the road width at a time.
This method was quick and very cost effective. In total, the reline took less than five weeks. Our innovative solution allowed the client to complete the project with minimal road interruption – something for which motorists were surely grateful.
